Five Go Jiving is a London based band with over 10 years experience in providing top quality music for clubs, festivals, corporate events, weddings & celebrations.

Some of London's best known jazz names work with the band. As well as band leader, vocalist and guitarist John Bayley, among those who are regulars are Dave Priseman, Neil Casey, Jerome Davies and Mark Parnell and Simon Da Silva.

Others performing from time to time are Sid Gould, Julian Seigel, Steve Rose, Pete Townsend, Matt Townsend and Simon Thorpe. Female vocalist Georgia Mancio has been known to do the odd gig.

MEET THE BAND

John Bayley:  Singer and Entertainer

Perhaps best known in London for his regular Christmas Eve appearances at the Festival Hall. John has led Five Go Jiving for the past 25 years playing the major name venues in London. John’s childhood in the United States led him to a love of the American song-book. John founded Five Go Jiving as a jump jive band paying tribute to the work of Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway and Louis Prima. As you will hear, John and the band now cover the gamut of swing, jive and good time jazz.

Simon De Silva: Trumpet

Came up via the National Jazz Youth Orchestra. Played with all the main English jazz artists and bands as well as some pop – including the pop Brand New Heavies. Blue Harlem. Well known on session scene. Pete King, Kenny Wheeler, Clark Terry, Dave O'Higgins, Mornington Lockett, Phil Robson and Julian Siegel International Bobby Shoe. Recorded a number of albums, most recently with Perry White.

Neil Casey: Piano

A graduate of Leeds Music College Neil has spent a lifetime recording and playing in British Jazz. A formidable stylist Neil has worked with the likes of Clark Tracey, and Mornington Lockett. Neil is a gifted accompanist and arranger, and has supported the work of modern British jazz singers such as Georgia Mancio, Nina Ferrow and Nia Linn.

Jerome Davies: Double Bass

For three years Jerome was the regular bassist with American singer Salena Jones and for a period was also her musical director. With Salena he toured Japan four times, appeared at the Blue Note club in New York and recorded a CD. For the past three years Jerome has been working with the Paris based vocalist Caroline Nin performing in Europe and for two consecutive years at the Adelaide International Cabaret festival.

 Jerome is busy as an arranger and composer of both jazz and classical music and has also produced several albums. He has recorded a CD with top Czech jazz musicians in Prague, for which he provided a number of original songs, arranged and co-produced. He performed on and provided the arrangements.

Marc Parnell: Drums

Played and recorded with Brit funk band The Inversions and the Latin fusion band Cayenne in the early 80s. Toured the world with Joan Armatrading, and in 1994 joined Jethro Tull for their summer tour of Norway and Austria. Played with British saxophonist, flautist and composer Theo Travis for 10 years and featured on four of his albums including Passion Dance- Live at Ronnies, recorded live at Ronnie Scotts club in London. Has worked with UK jazz artists, Liane Carroll, Annie Ross and Liz Fletcher amongst many others, including the young virtuoso George Booker. Plays on the song 'Pandemonium' on the Pet Shop Boys album 'Yes!'.

Dave Priseman: Trumpet player and multi-instrumentalist

Active across a wide range of music. Since graduating from the Leeds College of Music jazz course in 1985, Dave has been primarily known for his work on trumpet and flugelhorn, but he also works professionally on drums/percussion, guitar, electric bass, backing vocals, musical composition and arrangement, and also has some experience in record production. He has performed and recorded across a diverse spectrum of musical styles, for instance; Keith Tippett, John Mclaughlin, Georgie Fame, Chris Farlowe, Jools Holland, Allen Toussaint and Jeff Beck .Dave has also worked in musical theatre (on and off the West End), burlesque, and recording for film, TV, radio, commercial adverts, and video games.

FAQs

How many musicians are in the band?

Despite the name Five Go Jiving feature 6 musicians, Keyboard, Saxaphone, Trumpet, Keyboards, Drums, and a Guitar playing vocalist.


In what area does the band perform?  

Generally anywhere inside the M25, but occasionally further afield.


How much notice does the band need in terms of advance booking?

Generally a month, but please ask even if it is shorter notice.


Do you bring all of your own equipment?

Yes, including instruments, sound and lighting. Although if there is equipment in situ we can make use of this.


Who are the personnel in the band?

The line-up varies depending on availability but all players are well known around the London music scene.


What about if I only want a small group of say 4 or 5 personnel?

We have a smaller group which goes under the name of Casablanca that specialises in cool dinner jazz.


How do the band dress?

From DJs to jeans, the band will dress appropriately for the occasion.
